WIP Update – 14 Feb 26

I thought I was just going to wrap up Chapter 2 of TKoH in the course of the morning, but I didn’t actually finish until about 2300. Normally I like to let a chapter sit a half day at minimum before putting it out, but instead I settled on just a couple hours before getting it out. The chapter ended up being a lot longer than I was expecting, over 6500 words long. This could be a rather hefty book by the time I’m done. I imagine most chapters will be in the 2000-word range, but there may well be a few more chunky ones to be had.

Anyway, with that done, I’ll be switching over to CoP. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 13 Feb 26

Again I made progress on Chapter 2 of TKoH but not as much as I was hoping. There were some unanticipated obstacles that came up, so now I’m going to have to try to finish the chapter in the a.m. so I can post in the p.m. We’ll see how that goes. I’m really close to the end, so I’d hate to postpone for another week. (I think at worst, I may have to push the release back by a day.) And that’s to say nothing of the fact that I haven’t done any anime viewing for review purposes, so I need to try to get through at least one series. I have some doubts about my chances of success, but we’ll see what happens. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 12 Feb 26

I made more progress in Chapter 2 of TKoH, though not as much as the past couple days. I’ll have to step it up to get the last scene finished so I can meet my deadline. I’ll see what I can do. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 11 Feb 26

I made more solid progress on Chapter 2 of TKoH and have one or two more scenes to go to finish the chapter. I also spent more time on the map of Lower Midgard for WttW. In the original conception, I only set out a handful of settlements in each Trial, but I’m working on expanding that significantly, at least in the more built-up regions. This of course means more work, but it’ll result in a more naturalistic lived-in world. Plenty of fun to be had. We’ll see what happens next. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 10 Feb 26

With the prospect of the day off for the celebration of the foundation of this fine nation, I was able to nap through the evening and then spent the wee hours getting a significant amount of writing done on Chapter 2 of TKoH. Another round or two like this and I’ll have the chapter finished easily.

While I was working on the chapter, I made some changes to the overall timeline of the world. You see, a major even in the Dwarves’ history is the Five Hundred Years’ War in the Barklai Mountains against the Trolls and Gargoyles. This war ended with what became known as the Oreads’ Curse. The Oreads could no longer bear the damage being done to the mountains and so cursed the three races so that they would turn to stone by the light of the sun. This didn’t only apply to the Dwarves, Trolls and Gargoyles of the Barklai Mountains but those all over the world. This lasted until the Dwarven warrior-king Vesu managed to subdue a Fae emissary to the surface and forced the Oreads to lift the curse on the Dwarfkind. Originally this happened only a couple hundred years after the curse was first placed on the Dwarves, but I decided that it would need to take more than just one lifetime (by Dwarven standards, as Dwarves in the Tellus Arc live to around 200 on average) to really explain the long-lasting effects on Dwarven culture. Instead of the 12th Century of the Second Age, Vesu’s rise was moved to the 2nd Century of the Third Age, adding about 500 years to the time the Dwarves were cursed. Of course, it would take time for heralds from Arkh Barkun to seek out the other Dwarven communities scattered across the world, and that was once anyone actually took a mind to concern themselves with their brethren abroad. I have to imagine there had to be a case or two of Dwarves being sentenced to death by exile, only to find themselves with a new lease on life.

Anyway, that’s enough Dwarven history for now. A lot of older peripheral materials are going to require some rewrites, but I’ll try to stay focused on the task at hand until I get the chapter done. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 09 Feb 26

I made some progress on Chapter 2 of TKoH, just a bit under quota, but when I tried to get some more written, being only half-awake and much pestered by the office productivity specialist, I decided to pack it in. I’m pretty confident I can get the chapter done by the deadline, so we’ll see how it goes. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 30 Jan 26

Well, I didn’t make any progress on the story. Besides the bucket problem I was still working to resolve, I then had to deal with my computer not letting me save because I was supposedly out of memory, despite having nearly 8 gigs available. I had been running a dual-boot machine, but I never use the Windows partition, so I decided to nuke that and open up that half of my hard drive. Doing backups, making a new boot disk, then reapportioning the hard drive took up much of the evening, with the rest mostly spent with me being unconscious. This of course means that I won’t be making my deadline, so we’ll just have to push it to next week. I will try to continue my work over the weekend as my energy level and the office productivity specialist permit.

In other news, while my kiddos have been doing in-class work on their group projects, I’ve been reading the Eddas, so that will be helping with TKoH. That’s at least something productive. Anyway, I’ll be getting back to work. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 17 Jan 25

So it was Friday evening and I was all ready to work through the night to get the chapter done and ready for release on Saturday. Can you guess what happened next? I was out like a light before 2000 and didn’t come back around until around 0100.

Reader: “So when you came back around, you put in a few hours’ work at least, right?”

Me: *averts eyes*

Reader: “You just wrapped up your dailies and went to bed, didn’t you?”

Me: -_-

Well, even though I knew I wasn’t going to meet the deadline, I did get a solid bit of work in on Chapter 2 of TKoH. I’m not going to shoot for a third attempt to get it released, though. As per my (mostly) standard operating procedure, I’ll be switching over to CoP and try to get that chapter of TKoH knocked out when its turn comes up again. We’ll see how that goes. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 15 Jun 26

The grind of the week has really taken its toll, but I did manage to get some more writing on Chapter 2 of TKoH. I was also doing additional research on bark tanning. Watching a full video revealed some things the text descriptions I read didn’t mention, so I had to go back and make some changes for accuracy. I’m probably going to have to power through Friday night if I want any chance of meeting the deadline at this rate. We’ll see how it goes. Stay tuned.

WIP Update – 14 Jan 26

I didn’t accomplish a thing Tuesday, conking out at an unseasonably early hour, and then did the same Wednesday after all the fun and games of the first round of entrance exams. However, this time, when I came back around, I was wanting to finish a limited story event that was ending Thursday, so I did get a little writing done on Chapter 2 of TKoH while I was doing that. I’m going to have to pick things up if I’m going to meet my deadline, but there’s a lot of work-work to be done, so I’ll try to balance the two. Stay tuned.
