Attack on Titan - Volume 17 (2015)

Author/Artist: Hajime Isayama
Publisher: KC Magazine

Synopsis:
The Survey Corps must stop Rod Reis' rampage before he can breach Wall Sina, humanity's last line of defense.

Story/Characters:
I actually thought I might have skipped a volume because I had been away from the series for so long and we pick up after a brief time skip following the previous cliffhanger. I didn't feel much tension regarding the showdown with Rod, but I did like Kenny's flashbacks fleshing out parts of the story that were only hinted at earlier.

Art:
It took me a bit to get used to Isayama's art after having been away from it for about a year. Character art, particularly facial expressions, continue to be a bit wonky, but I honestly think it works for the series.

Conclusion:
I feel a bit underwhelmed with how this arc ended, but we get a pretty good stinger as we move into the next arc. What we have is enough to satisfy fans and keep them going, I think, but after all the buildup, it's a bit of a letdown how things turned out. (Never fear, though. Isayama's about to make up for it.)
