Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983)

Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983)

Director: Burny Mattinson
Starring: Alan Young, Wayne Allwine, Hal Smith

Synopsis:
A telling of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol featuring Disney characters.

Impressions:
When I was watching the '97 animated version of A Christmas Carol, I was thinking that maybe if I'd seen it as a kid, I might have some nostalgic fondness for it. Well, this version is one that I did see as a kid and have nostalgic fondness for, but unlike that other version, this one outclasses it on every front. It's an adaptation of an earlier radio performance and fans of classic Disney will get a kick out of characters across the ages in the various roles. (You might find it a little disconcerting having Daisy in the role of Isabelle.) Because it's just 25 minutes, the story gets compressed quite a bit, but they do a good job of fitting the story into the container they have. Also, as a side note, this is Clarence Nash's final performance as Donald (not counting Donald's 50th birthday special), so that's worth remembering. Even discounting the nostalgia goggle factor, this is a gem and well worth a place in your collection.
