Fury (2014)

Fury (2014)

Director: David Ayer
Starring: Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman

Synopsis:
An American tank crew presses deep into enemy territory as desperate German forces throw out everything they have left to delay the inevitable.

Impressions:
I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking of Inglourious Basterds when Brad Pitt made his return to WWII. In some ways, there are more similarities than you might think with a morally ambiguous crew of oddballs committing atrocities in gory detail. However, this is played completely straight and perhaps not since Saving Private Ryan have I seen a film that so viscerally illustrates the hellishness of war. Brad Pitt gives a rather good performance as the tank commander Wardaddy, Logan Lerman does well as new meat Norman, and Shia LaBoeuf was surprisingly solid as Bible (though the extent of his method acting, if reports are true, is insane). Military otaku will no doubt get a kick out of the fact that an actual Tiger (the only functional one left) gets featured for the first time on film. If you're a fan of Pitt and/or WWII films, I think you'll find it a decent watch.
