Aliens: Expanded (2024)

Aliens: Expanded (2024)

Director: Ian Nathan
Starring: James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, Gale Anne Hurd

Synopsis:
A look back at the film Aliens as it approaches its 40th anniversary.

Impressions:
I've watched plenty of behind-the-scenes featurettes in the various editions of Aliens that I own. I heard about this documentary in an interview with William Hope (Gorman), so it was on my radar and it just happened to be shown on one of my flights. Now, these are all new interviews that don't rely on archival footage, so we don't get any first-hand accounts from cast and crew who are no longer with us, such as Bill Paxton, Al Matthews, James Horner and Stan Winston, but in exchange, we get some castmembers with smaller roles given more opportunity to share their experiences. The topics mostly follow a chronological order with the events of the film rather than something like a topical grouping. I think the format works fairly well. As I've mentioned before, I've watched a lot of behind-the-scenes material for the movie and there were still quite a few new anecdotes and insights I hadn't gotten before, so I'm pretty sure any Aliens fan out there will want to give this a watch.
