Halloween II (1981)
Director: Rick Rosenthal
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance, Charles Cyphers
Synopsis:
Despite being shot by Dr. Loomis, Michael Myers is still on the loose and continues to kill.
Impressions:
If you felt the ending to the first film was a little too abrupt to properly tie a bow on things, this movie picks right up where the last one left off, to the point that I'm partially inclined to think of the two movies as just one big movie. The poorly lit hospital makes for a suitably creepy setting for the action and Laurie being injured from her previous encounter makes her even more vulnerable when Michael comes 'round, increasing the tension. Although the kills are still rather bland when compared to some later slashers, there is a little more creativity and variety put into them. We get some revelations in the course of the story which you may or may not consider to be a good thing, but they will definitely have a lasting influence on the series in the future (excepting the third film, of course). While not super-amazing or anything, it's still solid enough to warrant a watch for horror fans.
