Dracula 3D (2012)
[Dracula di Dario Argento]
Director: Dario Argento
Starring: Thomas Kretschmann, Marta Gastini, Asia Argento
Synopsis:
A librarian is hired by the Carpathian noble Count Dracula.
Impressions:
If the simple fact that this is an Italian production was not enough, the cheesy CG in the opening credits should serve as a warning of things to come. This is a very loose adaptation of the source material, and the changes don't serve to improve the story or the characters any. Thomas Kretschmann is serviceable as Dracula and Rutger Hauer gives an understated yet solid performance as Van Helsing, but the other performances are as bad as the special effects. I do like the main lietmotif, but maybe that's just because it sounds suspiciously similar to the main theme of the '84 version of Dune. Overall, this is on the lower end of the Dracula films I've seen and what little merit you can scrape from this isn't enough to justify the time you'll be out. Pass on this.
