Plane (2023)

Director: Jean-François Richet
Starring: Gerard Butler, Mike Colter, Tony Goldwyn

Synopsis:
An airliner makes an emergency landing on a rebel-held island in the Philippines and the captain, along with a prisoner wanted for murder, must save the passengers and crew.

Impressions:
It seems that we're starting to get more good old-fashioned action movies lately and this is one such example. The plot isn't terribly deep, but we have a good dynamic between the main duo of Gerard Butler (who gets to use his native Scottish accent) and Mike Colter. The passengers are mostly cardboard cutouts and there's nothing much to the main villain other than general menace, but I did particularly like how the airline was generally portrayed as competent in dealing with the crisis (especially Scarsdale), which is a nice aversion to the usual bureaucratic ineptitude. For a popcorn muncher with some good action set pieces, this is pretty solid. Give it a watch.
