Impressions:
I'd heard about this film and decided to check it out for myself. I'm quite glad that I did. Billed as Uganda's first action movie, it's a rather charming amateur production that's a bit of a diamond in the rough. If you look past the limits of the shoestring budget and inexperienced cast and crew, there are some interesting narrative elements and some of the fight choreography is actually decent. One interesting aspect of Ugandan cinema is the "video joker", who acts as something of a narrator and interpreter but also an MST3K-style riffer. VJ Emmie provides amusing commentary and I'd definitely take him up on his invitation at the end to visit his video hall and watch him perform live. This film has served to pique my interest in Uganda cinema in general and the work of director Nabwana IGG in particular. It's certainly worth a watch and so long as you accept it for what it is, I'm pretty well certain you'll have a good time.
