Venom (2018)
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Starring: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed
Synopsis:
A down-and-out reporter investigating a tech giant's medical experiments finds himself bonded to an alien symbiote.
Impressions:
I wasn't going to go out of my way for this movie, but when the opportunity conveniently presented itself, I gave it a shot. I did remember from promotional materials that Tom Hardy was showing what looked like some genuine enthusiasm for the role of Eddie Brock and I thought he did well. He was certainly a better fit for the character than Topher Grace in Spider-Man 3. The character of the Venom symbiote was also rather entertaining and I liked Riz Ahmed as the big bad Carlton Drake. The CG was a bit spotty but the use of the symbiote's powers tended to be creative and I generally liked the action set pieces. It's not a great movie, even by comic book movie standards, but I think it's worth a watch at least.
