Top Gun (1986)
Director: Tony Scott
Starring: Tom Cruise, Kelly McGinnis, Val Kilmer
Synopsis:
Hotshot Navy pilot (*ahem* Naval aviator) Maverick gets selected to attend the elite Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and dives right into the intense competition with his classmates to prove who's the best. However, his head isn't entirely in the game because his sights are set on an attractive civilian instructor.
Impressions:
I do believe I'm entering the Danger Zone. Top Gun is a classic slice of 80s cheese. If you like 80s cheese (I know I do), then you'll enjoy yourself. There's plenty of fanservice for the ladies (and I suppose guys of a particular inclination) and some good high-flying action. It's not particularly deep or profound, but it doesn't try to be. It's a popcorn flick and a decent one at that.
