The Swan Princess (1994)
Director: Richard Rich
Starring: Jack Palance, Howard McGillin, Michelle Nicastro
Synopsis:
A sorcerer turns a princess into a swan in a bid to gain her father's kingdom and only the prince she loves can break the curse.
Impressions:
With the major animation studios like Disney hogging most of the limelight (and the box office), it's easy to overlook smaller productions that are diamonds in the rough. The Swan Princess isn't one of them, though, at least not in my estimation. Everything about this film is third-rate, the story, the songs, the character design, the animation, etc. It's all very underwhelming. It's not face-punchingly stupid, though, and it's tolerable enough. Faint praise, I know, but there is much worse out there. It's decent enough entertainment for the kids, but if you're wanting something remarkable out of this one, you're going to be disappointed.
