The Rite (2011)
Director: Mikael Håfström
Starring: Colin O'Donoghue, Anthony Hopkins, Ciarán Hinds
Synopsis:
A skeptical seminarian is sent to Rome for a special course on exorcism, where he studies under an unconventional exorcist.
Impressions:
I'm not a big fan of exorcism fiction and I remember this movie getting a poor reception when it came out, but I happened to see it and decided to give it a shot. As I haven't watched a lot of exorcism movies, I can't really say how it stacks up to other entries in the sub-genre, but this is decent enough. Naturally, just about everyone is going to see this for Anthony Hopkins. I don't think it's a spoiler that he ends up possessed and basically does his Hannibal Lecter schtick. It's entertaining enough. If you like this kind of movie, then I think you'll be satisfied with it. I'm sort of on the fence about it, though.
