The Mechanic (1972)
Director: Michael Winner
Starring: Charles Bronson, Jan-Michael Vincent, Keenan Wynn
Synopsis:
An aging hitman takes in the son of one of his victims as an apprentice.
Impressions:
I was expecting a lot of violence here, but while there is a rather action-packed climax, most of the film is more of a slow, somewhat nihilistic character study. The slow, deliberate pacing definitely sets the tone for the kind of professional killer Arthur Bishop is. It may turn you off a bit that the two leads are so sociopathic, but what kind of people do you think would be hitmen? There's an early scene that nicely establishes the kind of people we're dealing with. It's not a flashy movie, but I liked the character dynamics and think it's worth seeing.
