The Howling (1981)
Director: Joe Dante
Starring: Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan
Synopsis:
A news anchor goes to a mountain retreat to recover from the psychological trauma of nearly becoming the victim of a serial killer, but the residents are hiding a dark secret.
Impressions:
This is a fairly well-known werewolf film, but you actually don't see much of the werewolves. This is fairly effective at building suspense and I do like that they don't bank on creature effects to carry the film. You see a lot of character actors here in bit roles, which is kinda neat. To be honest, though, I wasn't blown away or anything. I've seen better werewolf movies (and I've seen worse), and because it's rather slow-moving, it may not appeal to a lot of viewers. If you really like werewolf movies, then by all means see it, but otherwise you may not feel quite so compelled to give it a watch.
