The Fly (1958)

The Fly (1958)

Director: Kurt Neumann
Starring: David Hedison, Patricia Owens, Vincent Price

Synopsis:
The police and the distraught brother-in-law of a scientist must get to the bottom of his murder, which seems to be connected with his latest experiments.

Impressions:
While I imagine that this movie would have had a lot more impact if you didn't know what was coming, the discerning viewer can still appreciate the suspense that's carefully built up over the course of the film even while knowing the twist. "Restraint" is a good description for the approach and I think it's an effective one, working with the filmmaking conventions of the time. If nothing else, it's worth seeing as a piece of classic cinema, so give it a watch.
