The Dead Zone (1983)
Director: David Cronenberg
Starring: Christopher Walken, Brooke Adams, Tom Skerritt
Synopsis:
A man develops psychic powers after waking from a coma.
Impressions:
If you've seen other adaptations of Stephen King stories, you have some idea of what to expect in terms of tone. This is rather restrained for a Cronenberg movie and lacks most of the signature traits of his films. Christopher Walken works well in the main role. There's a natural off-kilter quality to him that plays right into the main character. I think the plot would've been better served if they focus on a single story rather than have two separate arcs that make the film seem more like a TV mini series cut into a feature-length film. I still think it's worth watching and Stephen King fans in particular should appreciate it.
