The Case of the Stuttering Bishop (1937)

The Case of the Stuttering Bishop (1937)

Director: William Clemens
Starring: Donald Woods, Ann Dvorak, Anne Nagel

Synopsis:
Perry Mason is retained for a manslaughter case by an Australian bishop, only to get caught up in a plot for the inheritance of a wealthy oilman.

Impressions:
Well, this is the last of the six Perry Mason movies to be released and the series certainly ends on a weak note. Donald Woods can't compare to Warren William or Ricardo Cortez as Perry Mason, though I did prefer Ann Dvorak to Claire Dodds as Della (but Genevieve Todd remains my favorite Della so far). The plot's a bit of a mess, though I do appreciate that we have a little courtroom action. If you're a completionist, give this one a watch. Otherwise you won't miss much by skipping it.
