Yakumo-san wa Ezuke ga Shitai (2018)
[八雲さんは餌づけがしたい]
Volume 6
Author/Artist: Satomi U
Publisher: Square Enix
Synopsis:
Yakumo-san has plenty of leftover somen and is going to treat Yamato-kun to a variety course.
Story/Characters:
A couple of the chapters a fairly inconsequential fluff (but that's not at all an issue in a slice of life series), but we do get a few with some extra impact. One of those involves Yamato-kun being locked out of his apartment and staying over at Yakumo-san's and another introduces both Yakumo-san and the audience to Yamato-kun's mother. There's also a chapter with Yakumo-san and Sakura and it continues to be a delight to see those two interact. If you're a Rui fan, Satomi U has you covered with a cute little story where she goes on a date with Yamato-kun. There's also a chapter where Yamato-kun is dealing with some tension in his team, which reminds us that there's more to his character than just shoveling away Yakumo-san's cooking.
Art:
It seems like the art is more consistent here than it was in the previous volume. There's no shortage of Yakumo-san fanservice and even a bit for Rui as well, but it's about par for the course. There are some particularly nice panels, especially in the chapter where Yamato-kun sleeps over at Yakumo-san's place.
Other:
We have four bonus shorts plus a little promo for Satomi U's other series, Maria-sensei wa Imouto-gachi Juku, which appears to be more overtly romantic than this series (and arguably more inappropriate as it involves a teacher-student relationship).
Conclusion:
This continues to be the cute, charming story I signed up for, so I'm quite satisfied with this volume. As noted above, the art's better this time around, so there doesn't seem to be much call to fear the quality dropping. If you've been collecting the series so far, you'll want to continue to do so.
