The Quintessential Quintuplets - Volume 3 (2018)

Author/Artist: Negi Haruba
Publisher: Shounen Magazine Comics

Synopsis:
With mid-terms approaching, Fuutarou has to try to ensure the Nakano Sisters at least make the minimum passing grade.

Story/Characters:
Mid-terms represent the first big milestone for Fuutarou. When an ultimatum gets attached, that raises the stakes. We have an interesting contrast with the two holdouts, Itsuki and Nino. There are good moments with all five girls. The gag on the day of the mid-terms is one of my favorites. After the mid-terms, we actually have a major moment that you won't fully appreciate until much later. We then move in to the wind-up for the field trip, which is pretty big, as we'll soon see.

Art:
The art is great as ever with emotional panels that pack plenty of punch. The cover of Chapter 18 is particularly fanservicey for those of you looking for it.

Other:
Starting this volume, in the intro section, instead of just a generic blurb for the characters, we get fun trivia, such how no one has ever seen Miku wearing her headphones as intended. The one-page bonus comic has the assignment of cooking duty in the Nakano household. I'm sure you can imagine how it ends.

Conclusion:
I like the challenge of the mid-term ultimatum and we get a nice breather before we go into the next major sequence in the story. There are loads of good character stuff going on. It's a real treat to watch the story unfold. Get this one for the collection.
