The Quintessential Quintuplets - Volume 2 (2017)

Author/Artist: Negi Haruba
Publisher: Shounen Magazine Comics

Synopsis:
Fuutarou finds himself accused of assaulting Nino, threatening his tutoring job.

Story/Characters:
Fuutarou's "trial" is a good review of his relationship with the quints in contrast with where they were at the beginning. We then get some fun interaction between Fuutarou's sister Raiha and Itsuki, which leads us into the summer festival. The summer festival is one of the best character-building sequences in the series. I particularly like what it does for Nino, representing the first major step toward improving the image the readers have of her. The development of Ichika played a large part in building my regard for her at this point in the story. The e-mail address exchange episode that follows is another fun exploration of the dynamics of the relationships, which leads us into a mystery second only to who ends up as the bride.

Art:
The art maintains the quality level established in the first volume, which is to say, quite high. If you have a thing for yukata, you'll appreciate the summer festival.

Other:
We have a one-page bonus comic about the quints' total weight. No points for guessing who wants a division in five equal parts.

Conclusion:
This is a fine continuation of the story with one of the best sequences in the series. I like the way the characters are balanced and the arc of their development. It's good stuff and if the characters have clicked with you, there's a lot of meat to enjoy. As with the first volume, this belongs in your collection.
