The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (2021)
[ゼルダの伝説:トワイライトプリンセス]
Volume 10
Author/Artist: Akira Himekawa
Publisher: Tentomushi Comics
Synopsis:
Link rushes to Hyrule Castle for the final confrontation with Ganondorf.
Story/Characters:
Everything comes together nicely as we gear up for the main event. The atmosphere of desperation as Ganondorf launches his all-out assault on the last pockets of resistance in Hyrule is nicely done. I appreciate what's done with Link's friends from his hometown, but the way things play out might have been more impactful if Link was on his own, particularly when Auru (Rafrel) and the troops view Midna as one of the enemy. However, it still works quite well as it is and plays into the theme of bridging the two worlds. As a big fan of the Link-Midna relationship, it really rewarding to see. We close on the first two stages of the fight with Ganondorf. As with the original game, the first stage would have had more punch if Zelda had been more developed (though I will grant that she got more development here in the manga, so that does help a bit). As for Ganondorf himself, this isn't the most interesting incarnation of the character, but there is something to be said for him being this ball of anger and hatred hell-bent on severing the bonds of fate that tie the three Triforce-bearers.
Art:
I've been consistently impressed with the art in this series and this volume in particular is a visual feast packed to the gills with action. It's particularly nice when the final fight turns to Ganondorf in beast mode.
Conclusion:
If you were looking for a big action climax, you're going to get it. As I noted above, a lot of the story threads come together nicely here and the stuff with Link and Midna is particularly good. We've still got at least one volume to go. Fans should be satisfied with what they get. This is well worth adding to the collection, so be sure to do so.
