Teasing Master Takagi-san (2014)
[からかい上手の高木さん]
Volume 2
Author/Artist: Soichiro Yamamoto
Publisher: Gessan Shounen Sunday Comics Special
Synopsis:
Nishikata and Takagi take shelter at a shrine after getting caught in the rain.
Story/Characters:
The rain chapter was nice and sweet. Of course, most of this series is nice and sweet, but I particularly like how intimate it is, just Nishikata and Takagi isolated close-in with each other. Next, Takagi helps Nishikata study, prompting him to question her motivations the whole time. After that Nishikata engages in a challenge to guess Takagi's test score. The psychological warfare was great. We then have Nishikata on the receiving end of the latest letter exchange fad and next him doing some punitive cleaning of the classroom for his outbursts. After that, Takagi encourages him to practice tandem bike riding, inspired by the sight of Nakai and Mano doing the same. Then we have arm wrestling and finally a neatly layered dream chapter to close things out.
Art:
There's nothing much new I have to say about the art. Simple, cute, charming. What more can you ask for?
Other:
We get an 8-page pilot for the series with character designs that are a bit different from the final product and an omake with Mano and Nakai.
Conclusion:
We're still early in the series, but when you have such a basic premise, it can be easy to wear it thin, but we keep the energy going with this volume and have a lot of nice moments. For anyone who's been charmed by this story, you continue to be pleased with what you get and want to add it to your collection.
