Ranma 1/2 (1990)
[らんま1/2]
Volume 13
Author/Artist: Rumiko Takahashi
Publisher: Shounen Sunday Comics
Synopsis:
Ranma incurs Happousai's wrath and is struck with a moxibustion that robs him of all his strength.
Story/Characters:
We haven't had a good training arc in a while and even if Happousai is involved, he's only there at the beginning and later for the confrontation. While Ranma's training for the Hiryuu Shoutenha, it's interesting that he lets Ukyou be with him but wants to keep Akane away because of his pride. (I suppose you could say it's a sign that he feels the need to show off for "his woman" and not for the friend he practically considers to be one of the guys.) The way Ryouga is used throughout is interesting and I always enjoy the complex dynamic with him and Ranma. The volume ends on a strong cliffhanger, something we don't get to see too often in this series.
Art:
When the action gets amped up, Takahashi never fails to impress. Both during Ranma's training and during his showdown with Happousai, there are some positively amazing shots. It's really good stuff.
Conclusion:
This is a fine training arc and even though Happousai's involved, I still strongly recommend giving this one a read.
