Talentless Nana (2020)

Director: Shinji Ishihara
Studio: Bridge
Starring: Rumi Okubo, Yuichi Nakamura, Mai Nakahara
Episodes: 13

Synopsis:
On an island where superpowered children learn to harness their powers, the students are being killed one after another by the enemies of humanity.

Impressions:
The idea of a school for superpowered children is an interesting enough concept in and of itself, but then they go all Lord of the Flies. I'll admit to being completely taken unaware by the Episode 1 twist and from there we have a neat Death Note-style game of cat-and-mouse going on. The basic dynamic is more than enough, but then we get other twists and turns along the way. There's a nice bit of tension with an unpowered character working to outwit the supers, uncovering and exploiting their weaknesses. The overall morality is at best grey and grey, which may be a bit of a turn-off for people who like having a side that's easy to root for. I don't know if this will be getting a continuation or not, but this ties up a mini arc within the larger story and leaves you eager for the bigger things to come. It's definitely worth a watch.
