Shaft (2000)
Director: John Singleton
Starring: Samuel L Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Christian Bale
Synopsis:
A detective quits the force to take justice into his own hands after the racist son of powerful real estate tycoon eludes punishment for murder.
Impressions:
With so many remakes and reboots out there, I find it interesting when there's a project that not only seeks to make an old franchise new but also extend it. Fans of classic blaxploitation like the original Shaft may not be satisfied with what this movie has to offer, but it's a decent action movie that has some good performances. Jeffrey Wright in particular shines as Peoples Hernandez and given how Christian Bale is known more for his action roles these days, it's interesting seeing him in a role like that of William Wade Jr. Samuel L Jackson is Samuel L Jackson. You know what you're getting from him and if that's what you like, you'll enjoy him as the younger Shaft. I thought it was worth watching, but your mileage may vary.
