Neon Genesis Evangelion (1996)
[ζ°δΈη΄γ¨γ΄γ‘γ³γ²γͺγͺγ³]
Volume 2
Author/Artist: Yoshiyuki Sadamoto
Original Story: Gainax
Publisher: Kadokawa Comics Ace
Synopsis:
Having survived his first battle, Shinji struggles to come to terms with piloting the Evangelion and its consequences to those around him.
Story/Characters:
This volume corresponds with Episodes 3 and 4 of the TV series. The conflict between Shinji and Touji is handled a little differently, but otherwise it corresponds rather closely to what was on the small screen. By introducing Shinji to the school environment, we explore his maladjusted socialization and the consequences of his actions as an Eva pilot. The addition of Touji and Kensuke to the cast help anchor Shinji even as he struggles to come to terms with the toll of piloting the Eva.
Art:
The artwork continues to impress. There's nothing lacking in the visuals.
Other:
This volume features blurbs from Megumi Ogata (Shinji's seiyuu), character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto and creature designer Yoshitoo Asari.
Conclusion:
These chapters act mostly as a bridge for what follows, but there's some important setup here that shouldn't disappoint. Touji and Kensuke's antics may not be for everyone, but they're important additions. While not as compelling as the first volume, it will nevertheless keep you reading.
