Impressions:
There are several series I've seen over the years that I've decided to pass on reviewing, usually because they crossed certain lines and I wanted to wash my hands of this. This series has crossed a number of such lines, so I was going to throw it onto the pile, but I've decided to take it on. The thing that kept me going was my fascination with the psychology of the main character. A shrinking violet hiding an inner depraved sadist. Was it just the influence of the evil powers she was given? Did her love of magical girls hide an underlying resentment, even hatred of them? The character study aspect enthralled me even as the depravity of the scenarios repelled me. I don't mind a certain degree of ecchi, but the uncensored version goes well into "I can't believe it's not hentai" territory, especially at the end. I almost want to find the broadcast version because I'm curious just how much was actually censored to get on Japanese TV. Humiliation play is a big of the antics and if that's not your cup of tea, you're likely to find this show rather uncomfortable. My gut wants to just tell you to pass on this, but I can't deny how much the character work did to keep me invested, so I'm going to just barely give it a take it or leave it with a nice big warning label. Definitely don't make the mistake of thinking that it's for kids because it's a magical girl story. Uncomfortable conversations will follow.
