Macross 7 Trash - Volume 2 (1995)

Author/Artist: Haruhiko Mikimoto
Publisher: Kadokawa Comics A

Synopsis:
Shiba goes all-out in his race with Movado, but he may find that he has met his match.

Story/Characters:
The main thrust of this volume is Shiba looking to step up his game while everything is put in place for the next phase of the story. I do like the theme of talent and connections versus hard work, though this doesn't quite get as fully developed as it should. If the story actually focused on T-Crush as a team sport, I could see Hublot's introduction serving the purpose of scouting him for Shiba's team, but that isn't the case and not much comes of him except that he's an effeminate transvestite who conversely is a brutal fighter both in and out of the arena.

Art:
The art continues to look good and we get some nice action sequences.

Other:
We get some design sketches of T-Crush uniforms, airblades, and the Heaven colony ship.

Conclusion:
Honestly, not a lot happens here. A lot of time is spent on Enika's hunt for Shiba on Three Star and there isn't much payoff. Maharu cluing in Shiba to what's coming up might just be enough to keep you going, but it's just not all that compelling for me. Take it or leave it.
