Jackie Brown (1997)
Director: Quentin Tarantino
Starring: Pam Grier, Samuel L Jackson, Robert Forster
Synopsis:
A flight attendant who smuggles money for an arms dealer is caught up in the FBI's net and works to outwit them all.
Impressions:
Some people consider this movie to be something of a black sheep in the Tarantino canon as it's an adaptation rather than an original story. While the Tarantino touch may be a little more muted than some of his other films, it's still there and for some people who think his idiosyncrasies come off a little too strong may actually like the change. There's a strong blaxploitation influence and it managed to help trigger a bit of a career revival for both Pam Grier and Robert Forster. The characters are memorable and besides Grier and Forster, particular note goes to Samuel L Jackson as Ordel. If you like films where there's a pileup of criminal plots, you should enjoy this. It's definitely worth a watch.
