Impressions:
Well, after the debacle that was Highlander II, they went back to the series' roots for this outing. And by going back to the series' roots, I mean they basically did a retread of the first movie. Now, I like the first movie, so it's not bad on another go-around and it'd probably hold up even better if you didn't hold it up to the original. Mario Van Peebles is good as Khan, but he's basically just playing the Kurgan, so it's not breaking much new ground. Adding the element of illusion magic is kinda interesting, though fans are likely to debate the canonicity of it. With Mako giving the opening narration, it almost felt like it was Conan the Barbarian at first, which amused me. The movie drags a bit in the second act which is about the biggest knock I have against the film (even more than the fact that it's the same movie twice). If you don't mind this being Highlander Redux, then give it a shot. Otherwise, just watch the first movie again.
