Foxy Brown (1974)
Director: Jack Hill
Starring: Pam Grier, Antonio Fargas, Peter Brown
Synopsis:
The girlfriend of a slain undercover officer poses as a call girl to seek revenge on the people responsible.
Impressions:
This movie was originally intended as a sequel to Coffy, but for whatever reason, the studio changed its mind at the last minute. The resemblance is still strong and you could argue that this is basically Coffy with the serial numbers scratched off. Most people rate Coffy higher, but I find myself a bit torn because Foxy Brown feels slightly more cohesive story-wise but as a retread, a lot of the novelty is gone. While you don't have anyone as colorful as King George here, I prefer Kathryn Loder's Miss Katherine as the big bad. Basically, if you like Coffy, you'll probably like this too.
