Synopsis:
While preparing a missile site for the Navy, the crew of a deep-sea colony unleash the terrors of the depths.

Impressions:
When I was a kid, I would see DeepStar Six at the video store and the cover always stuck with me. It wasn't until much later that I learned of the three-way brawl of deep-sea movies in '89. After seeing Leviathan, I knew I'd have to hunt this one down eventually to round out the experience. This movie doesn't get much love, so I wasn't expecting anything going in, but I have to admit that it ended up being fairly watchable. There are no big name actors in the cast, though the average viewer will likely recognize Miguel Ferrer and Elya Baskin, but that doesn't really hurt things too much as celebrity can at times be a distraction. Really, everything is rather decent, the story, the characters, the acting, the effects, etc. It's certainly not worth breaking down the doors to see, but if you're put off by James Cameron's pretensions in The Abyss, this may actually make for better viewing. It also doesn't feel quite as derivative as Leviathan, not that you can exactly call this film a trailblazer. If you're curious, give it a watch, but you're not missing much if you pass on it either.
