Impressions:
As I enjoyed the first season, I welcomed this continuation. I liked the high-level diplomacy with the Gran Chaos Empire and Souma finding something of a kindred spirit in Empress Maria. The things I liked about the series are still here, but a bit of a fly in the ointment is that most of the problems get solved far too quickly and tidily. The title character may be a realist, but the realism in the world is sorely lacking. It's a shame, too, because a greater challenge and more complexity would make the story far more compelling. What we get is still enjoyable enough, but I find myself wanting more. It seems like too many writers are too timid to get their hands dirty. So it goes. If you liked the first season, I'm sure you'll find this is worth a watch even if the material doesn't make the most of its potential.
