Impressions:
Not many people were expecting a second season of Overlord as Madhouse doesn't have a reputation for following up on the series they put out. I enjoyed the first season and was quite happy to have more. Some people may not like that Ainz himself goes out of focus in favor of side characters, but I thought it was a pragmatic choice given how overpowered Ainz is. Also, I haven't seen Lizardmen given so much genuine characterization since Suikoden III and it's nice to see that kind of effort devoted to races that are usually just treated as disposable mobs. I do like that Ainz is trying to foster the growth of the floor guardians and it's interesting to see them develop in their own ways. Despite being informed previously that Ainz is losing touch with his humanity, he seems more emotive here, which does add a bit to the entertainment factor. At times I feel there might be one too many plates spinning in the story, but perhaps the story needs that level of complexity. Anyway, all told, I was satisfied with what I got and am more than happy to hear that a third season will be following. Give this one a watch.
