Impressions:
This is another one of those series I've heard people buzzing about but didn't look into it for myself. However, the recent conclusion of the third season prompted me to go back and check it out. Our male lead Hachiman is referenced quite a bit and for good reason. He's not the first character of his type, but with so many milquetoast vanilla leads in Japanese romcoms, I appreciate someone who's so grouchy and sarcastic. The rapid-fire barbs exchanged between him and his counterpart Yukino is one of the main treats of the series. I also like how secondary characters who could be nothing more than cardboard cutouts of your standard cliches have some roundness to them. I realize my bar may be set rather low, but I'll take what I can get. We've got a good dynamic with the main trio. I'm a pretty big fan of Nao Toyama, which is a big part of Yui's appeal, but I'm also quite fond of Saori Hayami's performance as Yukino. There's quite a lot to love here and I can easily recommend adding it to your collection.
