The Tomorrow War (2021)

Director: Chris McKay
Starring: Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, JK Simmons
Synopsis:
A former Special Forces operator is drafted into a war where people from the past are sent to the future to fight an alien invasion that has humanity on the verge of annihilation.
Impressions:
I heard this movie was fun but a bit dumb if you spend much time thinking about the mechanics, logistics and even the simple logic of much of the story. Honestly, I thought the most farfetched thing wasn't the alien invasion or the time traveling but a big party of Americans watching the World Cup. If you set aside the aforementioned issues of mechanics, logistics and logic, there are some decent action sequences in a role that plays well to Chris Pratt's strengths. I would've liked a little more development with Dan's relationship with his daughter in the future, but there's something to setting up a parallel in her relationship with him and his own father. (Speaking of which, I liked JK Simmons in the role of Dan's father.) I know it's not that much of a ringing endorsement, but if you don't think about it too much, it's well enough worth a watch.
