Impressions:
As you might imagine, I was skeptical at the prospect of bringing Deadpool to the MCU. At least they committed the R-rating. As I recall, if it wasn't for Ryan Reynolds digging in his heels, we wouldn't have gotten as much as we did. On the surface level, this movie seems to give you what you're here for: bloody violence, irreverent humor, cameos, and references galore. If, however, you're committed to continuity with the story and characters and a certain measure of respect for what came before, there's a lot to be annoyed about. Also, if you don't like what's been done in the MCU in recent years, this movie does the thing where it makes fun of the bad thing but still does it anyway. If you don't like multiverse stories, this isn't going to change things for you. As much as I hated a lot of the decisions made with the writing, I couldn't deny the crocodile brain getting consistently tickled. The featured Deadpool/Wolverine dynamic is pretty good and I did find Cassandra Nova to be solid as an antagonist. I think the reception by general audiences already tells the tale that this film pleases the crowd more than not and I think that's enough for me to recommend giving it a watch.
