Impressions:
It's funny that this was a dueling movie with Kingsmen: The Secret Service because like Kingsmen, I had no interest in seeing this movie but when I actually did, I liked it quite a bit. You can feel director Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films channeled into this with the overall plot and the dynamic between the male leads. The movie answers a question I had about Henry Cavill. I didn't know if I just didn't like him as an actor or if it was just the way his portrayal of Superman is written and directed. Turns out it's the latter. He's brilliant in this as Napoleon Solo and Armie Hammer is no slouch as Ilya. Toss Alicia Vikander in the mix as Gaby and you've got a good power trio. I also liked Elizabeth Debicki as Victoria, a very cunning villainess, and Sylvester Groth as Uncle Rudi. The soundtrack is also very good. Sometimes it actually has a bit of a Spaghetti Western vibe, which you wouldn't expect for a 60s spy film, but it works. Oh, and the dialog. I don't know if I've ever seen dialog so heavily dripping with innuendo. Barely a line passes without being a double entendre. It's actually pretty funny. I strongly recommend this one. At very least give it a watch, but I'd say add it to your collection.
