The Irregular at Magic High School The Movie: The Girl Who Calls the Stars (2017)

Synopsis:
Tatsuya, Miyuki and their friends go on spring break on an island where they encounter an escaped subject of magical experimentation.

Impressions:
For anime-only viewers, this film may have caused some confusion as it takes place after the Visitor Arc of Season 2, which didn't start airing until three years after the movie's release. I don't think it's that hard to pick up, but you can be forgiven for not knowing who Lina is and how she fits in to all of this at first. The main plot is fairly simple. Our gang is trying to save the test subjects while the USNA's Stars unit is trying to wipe out the base. It's very action-heavy, with Tatsuya basically becoming magic Batman, cape and everything. It's an original story and as a result not particularly consequential to the larger plot of the series, but as a standalone, it's not too bad. Definitely on a technical level, it doesn't disappoint. If you like the Mahouka franchise, it's worth a watch.
