I Am Mother (2019)
Director: Grant Sputore
Starring: Rose Byrne, Clara Rugaard, Hilary Swank
Synopsis:
A girl raised by a caretaker robot in an isolated facility comes to learn that the outside world is not what she believes.
Impressions:
A postapocalyptic scifi dealing with a human raised by a machine? Sure, I'm game. This is a nice little character study that deals with isolation and man-machine interaction in a way that reminds me a bit of Moon. I like seeing a small-scale scifi like this that has a strong focus on character rather than big action and special effects. (The special effects are quite solid, though.) I do like the dramatic value of having Daughter stuck in the middle between Mother and Woman when it's clear that neither one is being entirely honest with her. It's a solid film and well worth a watch.
