Frozen (2013)

Synopsis:
Princess Elsa of Arendelle is born with the magical power to control snow and ice, but after an accident nearly kills her sister Anna, she secludes herself from the outside world, but on the day of her coronation, her powers go berserk, cursing the land with an eternal winter. It's up to Anna to find her sister who has fled into the mountains and save Arendelle.

Impressions:
After seeing Tangled, I had great hopes for Frozen, but when I saw the emphasis on Olaf's antics in the early promo work, I was instantly turned off and skipped the theatrical run. This was, in retrospect, unfair as I actually found myself liking the character of Olaf more than I thought I would. It's a good movie, but I'd argue that Tangled is an all-around more solid package, controversial though that opinion may be. I won't deny that Frozen has proven to be a huge moneymaker for Disney with tremendous appeal. The amount of Frozen merch my nieces have is ridiculous.

There's actually a lot more I'd like to go into about the characters and such that would be more appropriate in an analysis post. I will say that the winding road the script took does show and maybe a little more coherence would've helped. The songs aren't bad (though most people are no doubt sick of it by now, "Let It Go" is quite impressive), although I find they stand out more, unlike in Tangled where they seemed to blend in better. That's my own preferences when it comes to integrating songs and film, but I know some people like the big stage musical approach.

Chances are, you've seen it already, but if not, go see what all the hype's about. You'll probably like it more than you think.
