Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion III - Glorification (2018)
[コードギアス 反逆のルルーシュ III 皇道]
Director: Goro Taniguchi
Starring: Jun Fukuyama, Takahiro Sakurai, Yukana
Synopsis:
Zero leads the recapture of Japan in the decisive battle between the forces of the Britannian Empire and the United Federation of Nations.
Impressions:
As we move into the final stage of the story, the cuts and alterations take their toll. For instance, the plot with Rolo gets botched because we had none of the establishment for why Lelouch hated him so much. A number of developments all come across as too abrupt because they're not given the proper setup. As far as some odd points of interest, Luciano's Valkyrie Squadron is turned into men of the Pureblood faction apparently so we don't have to watch a quartet of cute girls die horribly. They try to make the Black Knights look better, but your mileage may vary on how effective that is. They use "Mosaic Kakera" and some original song for the attack on the Damocles that I don't think was as effective as the original score. The end credits song was also a poor fit, if you ask me.
Because we have only nine episodes' worth of material to cover this time around, it isn't nearly as gutted as the previous two entries. That gives it a bit of an edge over the second film. I still by all means recommend the original series over this, but this is a better representation of the source material. There's not that much new material, but insofar as the changes affect Lelouch of the Re;surrection, you may want to give this a watch.
