The Invasion (2007)

Director: Oliver Hirschbiegel

Synopsis:
After the crash of a space shuttle, an epidemic sweeps the nation, changing people's personalities and causing them to behave strangely.

Impressions:
Honestly, I didn't want to watch this movie, but did so for review purposes. It's definitely the weakest version of the Body Snatchers story. Each version represents the zeitgeist of its era, which is a problem because I really don't like the Aughts. A lot of the baggage of the time bogs down the film. (For one thing, the premise does feel a bit of a "too soon" deal, even if it was four years after the Columbia disaster.) There are other problems as well. Instead of alien pods, we now get projectile vomit. Thanks, movie. Credit where credit's due, it does a good job of building and maintaining suspense. Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig do well enough in the lead roles. It's also nice seeing Veronica Cartwright having a cameo. Still, in the end, I can't give it much of an endorsement. Take it or leave it.
