Impressions:
It may come as little surprise that I'm not a fan of chick flicks. Yes, yes, I realize all genres can be formulaic, but the typical chick flick formula really doesn't appeal to me, though I'm not in any way the intended audience. This movie, however, manages to go beyond the typical chick flick boundaries with a good dose of action and adventure. I would argue that this is one of the rare chick flicks a guy can enjoy as much as his girl. Matthew McConaughey brings his usual charisma and has some good belligerent sexual tension with Kate Hudson (which had been displayed previously in the far worse How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days). You've got good supporting characters like Donald Sutherland as Nigel, Alexis Dziena as Gemma, and Ray Winstone as Moe, as well as a somewhat ineffectual main villain in Kevin Hart with his even more ineffectual mooks. McConaughey's character channels his portrayal of Dirk Pitt from Sahara, so if you liked that movie, you should like this one as well. I think it's worth a watch and you may too.
