Vampires (1998)

Vampires (1998)

Director: John Carpenter
Starring: James Woods, Daniel Baldwin, Sheryl Lee

Synopsis:
An embittered vampire hunter pursues the first vampire, who is searching for a relic that will render him invulnerable.

Impressions:
This is a pretty good modern vampire story. I like the almost mechanical operation of a vampire hunt established in the beginning of the film. James Woods is great as the cynical, foul-mouthed Jack Crow. If you like anti-heroes, this is your guy. Thomas Ian Griffith was okay as the main bad guy, but I almost wish he was as much of a talker as Crow. There's a decent level of tension throughout and the action is okay. Some people complain about the way the vampires light up when they hit sunlight, but I thought it looked cool. If you like vampire films, this is worth a shot.
