Gattaca (1997)

Director: Andrew Niccol
Starring: Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Jude Law

Synopsis:
In a society with strict genetic discrimination, a man deemed inferior manages to secretly join the elite to fulfill his dream, but when a murder occurs in his office, his ruse may be exposed.

Impressions:
As with most films dealing with emerging social issues, this movie is a bit heavy-handed at times but still manages to spin a good yarn with particularly notable performances by Ethan Hawke and Jude Law. Could this movie start a conversation about genetic profiling, designer babies and such? Probably. How accurately it represents the real-world issues related to the pertinent bioethics, I'm not entirely sure. However, as a thriller with a unique premise, this is worth seeing.
