Deep Impact (1998)

Director: Mimi Leder
Starring: Robert Duvall, Téa Leoni, Elijah Wood

Synopsis:
An amateur astronomer, a new reporter and a team of astronauts all deal with the impending disaster of a comet on a collision course with Earth.

Impressions:
This is widely (and rightly) seen as the more intelligent choice of the dueling celestial objects aimed at Earth films of '98, but I'll readily admit that Armageddon has a much higher raw entertainment factor. If you want a movie that picks the brains and tugs at the heartstrings, this is the better choice, but it can come off a bit stale. Watch this for character drama rather than action.
