Death Warrant (1990)

Director: Deran Sarafian
Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Robert Guillaume, Cynthia Gibb
Synopsis:
A cop goes undercover in prison to find out the truth behind a string of inmate murders.
Impressions:
This is a so-so undercover cop in prison movie with a few decent action scenes and a fairly hilarious big bad (namely because he mightily strains your suspension of disbelief). If you're keeping track of the "how do we explain Van Damme's accent" excuse for his movies, this one presents him as Canadian. Interestingly enough, I thought that Abdul Salaam El Razzac as Priest had a creepier stage presence than the Sandman, who I could never take that seriously. If you're a big JCVD fan, you'll probably want to give this a watch (if you haven't already), but for general audiences, I wouldn't classify it as a must-see by any stretch. Take it or leave it.
