WarGames (1983)
Director: John Badham
Starring: Matthew Broderick, Ally Sheedy, John Wood
Synopsis:
A teenage hacker triggers a simulation of nuclear war that could become reality unless the supercomputer behind it can be stopped.
Impressions:
This is a classic film of Cold War paranoia and an interesting look at computers from the early 80s. There's a good sense of escalation and tension as the stakes rise. I also liked the fact that the AI here isn't malicious. It simply can't distinguish between real-life and a simulation. I liked main character David's resourcefulness and there was good chemistry between Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy. It's an entertaining film and well worth a watch.
